Candle Gifts and Ideas

In my opinion, candle gifts are excellent gifts to give and receive. Maybe that's why they're so popular! It's funny to me how certain scents can immediately make you think of certain events or people.

Here are some of the reasons why I believe that candles gifts are great:

  • INEXPENSIVE - Fits with any budget

  • APPROPRIATE - For almost any occasion

  • VERSATILE - Everybody can use them

  • CONVENIENT - Small size is great for shipping, etc.

  • EMOTIONAL - A scent can create a strong emotional attachment

  • NON-PERSONAL - It's easier to find a scent people like than personal items such as clothing, jewelry, etc.

Making Candle Gifts

People love a gift that you put some thought and effort into! Try making a customized candle for your next special someone. For instructions on how to make a candle, check out my candle making page. I would also recommend using a soy or vegetable wax so they can easily clean out the container when it's gone. I am also a big believer in the health and environmental benefits of soy compared to paraffin.

Well anyway, here are a few ideas for custom candle gifts to get your imagination flowing!

Champagne Candle:

Get a pair of champagne glasses and have them engraved with your anniversary date, your names, a simple message, or anything you can think of that will evoke a fond memory.

Then, simply pour the wax in the glasses to make a candle out of them. How romantic would it be to have your customized champagne candles burning at your next dinner for two?

Crystal Bowl Candle:

Find a cut, crystal bowl and pour the wax in it to make an expensive, elegant looking candle gift. Try to find one with a lid so it will look better when it is not lit.

Shot Glass Candle:

For the man who would like (or could use) a little air freshener without losing his sense of manliness. Get a dozen or so, shot glasses and make candles out of them.

You might try finding more masculine scents such as musks, spices, or woods. I say to make a dozen or so, because if you're going to go through the trouble of making a candle batch, you might as well do several.

Coffee Lover's Candle:

Here's an idea for your coffee loving friend. There are some really neat coffee mugs on the market today. Find one that is painted up and has a unique look. Then find a coffee, hazelnut, or some scent that will fit the theme and make the mug into a candle.

You can even get a cafe mocha scent as a nice touch. Or, if you prefer, here is a plain coffee fragrance. The neat thing is that when the candle is gone, they can enjoy their coffee mug!

Flower Vase Candle:

Some flower vases come in come in shapes that just beg to become a candle! The main thing you want to look for is a vase with a "V" shape that does not taper to a small hole at the top.

This can create one of the most beautiful and unique candles ever! Besides, it's kind of fun looking for shapes and colored glasses that will make a unique and special candle. You might try using a floral scent to complete the theme.

Silver Box Candle:

Find a silver box with a lid that is adorned with decorative engraving. This can make a really nice gift with the extra special touch of your handy work inside!

If it is rectangular in shape, remember you'll probably need to use multiple wicks to burn all of the wax.

The possibilities of different candle containers are endless. You can also use terra cotta, brass bowls, copper, just about anything that will stand up to the heat of a nearby flame.

***Use caution with thin walled containers. If you have any doubts about its safety, play it safe and find something else.

Other Candle Gift Ideas:

Decorating pillar candles can add a special touch as a candle gift. Find some studded or jeweled push pins at a hobby store. If that's not your thing try acrylic paints or simply ribbons. Here's an idea for Mother's Day.

Mother's Day Pillars:

For Mother's Day, Buy 2 large pillars and spell out mom and dad (or their names) with push pins, glitter or acrylic paint, whatever you like.

Now get smaller pillars, one for each one of their children and put the names of each sibling on those candles. You may want to get fairly large pillars if the names are long or consider just putting initials on the candles.

Now to complete the project, find a nice round platter and place the parent candles in the center with the siblings surrounding them. If there are only 1-3 children you might place the parents in the back with the siblings in the front.

Pressed Flower Pillars:

This one may take some practice but you can do it! First off, get a nice pillar candle and some pressed flowers. Heat the back side of a spoon with a candle flame or some other heat source.

Position a flower on the pillar and press the flower into the candle using the back of the spoon. The heat from the spoon will melt the wax and cause the flower to stick to it.

Try covering the bottom 1/3 of the pillar with flowers or just sparingly throughout the whole pillar.

Easy Gift Givin':

If you're in a hurry, or craft projects are not your thing, never fear! You can still give candle gifts without losing that personal touch. Simply order your candles from a site that will giftwrap or gift box your candle and include a personal message. Here is the site I recommend.

No matter which of the candle gifts you decide upon, the recipient will surely appreciate it!

Sit back, relax, and give a candle gift.
