Why Soy Bean Candles?
So what's all the fuss about soy bean candles anyway? To answer this question in full, read this page and don't forget to read the page on
paraffin candles
also.
We believe that someday, all candles will be made from vegetables such as the soybean. Well, maybe not all, but at least the majority.
We still have a long way to go, but with some of the obvious and important benefits that they provide, the outlook is positive. If there's a better way to do something, we need to do it.
Benefits of All Natural Candles:
Less Soot:
All natural soy and vegetable wax candles release far less soot (black smoke) into the air. This means there is less soot to be breathed in by family members and pets.
This soot contains 11 known toxins of which 2 are carcinogenic (toulene and benzene). The Enviromental Protection Agency has produced a report validating the possible dangers of breathing candle soot. You can read the report at this link:
EPA Report.
It also means there is less soot deposited on walls and ceilings. The National Association of Home Builders has stated that candle soot costs the insurance industry millions of dollars.
Renewable Resource:
Soy bean candles are 100% all-natural, and are a renewable resource. Not only are they good for the environment, they are a great benefit to American farmers.
Lessens U.S. Depency on Foreign Oil:
Although a very small percentage of our crude demand comes from candle production, the U.S. is currently producing over $2 billion in candles per year according to the
National Candle Association.
This number is increasing rapidly due to a growing trend in these little luxuries. Besides, the way to cut back on our petroleum usage is "one step at a time".
Water Soluble:
Since soy bean candles are water soluble, they are much easier to clean off of surfaces such as the jar itself or clothing and carpets if spilled. Check out our
Burning Tips
page for ideas on clean up.
Burns Cooler and Longer:
A lower melting point means that a smaller flame is required to melt the wax. Not only is a smaller flame safer, this enables the candle to burn longer than typical paraffin candles.
It's hard to tell exactly how much longer they burn because various factors such as drafts and not trimming the wick can cause any candle to burn much faster than normal.
Holds its Shape:
Especially in pillar candles, paraffin tends to mushroom over and lose its shape as it burns down. Soy and vegetable wax pillars hold their shape and burn a relatively straight cylinder down the candle.
Soy bean candles are relatively new in the industry and many people are still unaware of its advantages. Help spread the word about these all-natural products. It's good for all of us!
